RECIPE: Brandy-Old Fashioned Sweet

While milk is Wisconsin’s official state beverage, the Brandy Old-Fashioned, Sweet, is its Friday night fish-fry stand-in. Our favorite restaurants in the state that serve them include Norwood Pines in Minocqua, the Lake Beulah Country Club in East Troy, and Smokey’s in Manitowish Waters.

We’ve tested a few recipes over time, and I present one that’s a favorite in the BYM backyard:

The BYM Brandy Old-Fashioned, Sweet

Ingredients:

  • 1 orange slice
  • A few cherries & 1 tsp juice (we like to experiment with different varieties. Or, make our own cherry mix from the tree in our backyard.)
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 1 tsp (or dash) bitters
  • 1 to 2 oz brandy
  • 1 extra-large ice cube (Like this!)
  • 3-4 oz lemon-lime soda.
  • Splash of sparkling water, if necessary
  • Garnish with cherry, orange slice

Muddle cherry juice, bitters, and squeeze of orange. Add the orange, two cherries, and a single, large cube of ice, and cinnamon stick. Add brandy, soda, and water, then garnish.

Enjoy!
